"Then they said to Jeremiah, The Lord be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the Lord thy God shall send thee to us.
Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the Lord our God."
I found this very interesting, the remnant of Judah ask Jeremiah to pray to the Lord asking what they should do. They even say they understand that it will be well with them if they obey the voice of the Lord. Even with knowing all this they decide to go against the council of the Lord. Jeremiah tells them the Lord said to stay where they were. That the king of Babylon will not hurt them. Not to go into Egypt for the king of Babylon will follow them there and they will face famine, pestilence and die. So why do they pick the option that goes against the Lord? Fear. It is the fear of man, instead of the fear of the Lord. They do not have sufficient faith even though they say the right words in the beginning. I guess that is why we are judged on faith and works. For I can say I have all the faith in the world, but it means nothing if my actions do not show it.
"But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?"
