Today's Favorite Verse: Revelation 14:1

Today's Favorite Verse: Revelation 14:1
"And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads."

I pondered on the 144,000 and how it would be good to be one of them. I could do the part of having the Father's name written in my forehead. Yet, I know more has been revealed through the prophet Joseph Smith on them.

"Q. What are we to understand by sealing the one hundred and forty-four thousand, out of all the tribes of Israel—twelve thousand out of every tribe?
A. We are to understand that those who are sealed are high priests, ordained unto the holy order of God, to administer the everlasting gospel; for they are they who are ordained out of every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, by the angels to whom is given power over the nations of the earth, to bring as many as will come to the church of the Firstborn."
(Doctrine and Covenants 77:11)

If the number is to be High Priests and not just Elders then that isn't our missionary force. Where is there a big force of high priest? Then I though of the ever growing number of General Authority Seventies and Area Seventies. There are 12 quorums of seventies. They certainly cover every nation, kindred, tongue and people. The Lord didn't say the 144,000 had to all go out at once. Nor do I know if the number is symbolic or literal. I have no idea how many Seventies have been called since the church was restored.

There is one thing that is curious about our missionaries. If it possibly included them the last stats I saw there were 72,000 of them, and the numbers are growing. Double 72,000 and in one turn over you get 144,000 who have served.

When President Nelson was first called as prophet in 2018 he held a Worldwide Youth Devotional. He invited the youth ages 12-18 to enlist in the Lord's battalion. That was 6 years ago. This year the youngest of the youth at that event are now able to enlist. I wonder how many missionaries have served in these past 6 years?

“Would you like to be a big part of the greatest challenge, the greatest cause, and the greatest work on the earth today?” President Nelson asked. “Would you like to gather Israel during these precious latter days? Would you, who are the elect, be willing to help find the elect who have not heard the message of the restored gospel?”
“My dear extraordinary youth, you were sent to earth at this precise time — this most crucial time in the history of the world — to help gather Israel,” he said. “There is nothing happening on this earth right now that is more important than that. … This is the mission for which you were sent to earth.”
“Those noble spirits — those finest players, those heroes — are you!” he said. “I testify that the gathering is now, and it is real.”
“So now, I am inviting every young woman and every young man between the ages of 12 and 18 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to enlist in the youth battalion of the Lord to help gather Israel.”
(Russell M. Nelson, "President Nelson invites youth to enlist in the Lord's battalion by doing 5 things", Church News, Worldwide Youth Devotional, 3 June 2018)

When you think of all that the Lord's church is doing on the earth right now to find scattered Israel it doesn't take much to feel this is literally being fulfilled today.

Hmmm, (Revelation 14:3) now exactly when are those new hymns coming out?

Today's Favorite Verse: Alma 5:26-27

Today's Favorite Verse: Alma 5:26-27
"And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?
Have ye walked, keeping yourselves blameless before God? Could ye say, if ye were called to die at this time, within yourselves, that ye have been sufficiently humble? That your garments have been cleansed and made white through the blood of Christ, who will come to redeem his people from their sins?"

So many wonderful verses in this chapter, which makes it so hard to choose what to ponder on. I asked myself which is my favorite? and it is these two. They are the verses that I ask of myself, to make sure I'm staying on track. Truly I hear the song of redeeming love and when it's missing I know things are not right. When I ponder on the second verse the spirit will let me know how I fair. How grateful I am for personal scripture study, especial now when the temple is closed and the passing of the sacrament is so much shorter at home. Those were places that I also did a lot of pondering on my condition before God. At least personal scripture reading is still there and I can nightly reflect on how I stand before the Lord and keep myself in remembrance of all He has done for me.

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 108:2

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 108:2
"Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early."

I wondered if David was awaken with the song of redeeming love playing in his head?

"And now behold, I say unto you my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?"
(Alma 5:26)

Literally, it was with my change of heart that I began to be awaken with the hymns of my redeemer playing in my head. It is most often on the mornings I am going to the temple. At first I awake only hearing the music, then gradually the words become clear. They are sweet sacred messages to me. I don't really understand all that is connected to it, but I know when I don't hear it in a certain space of time I check to see what I am neglecting or not taking care of. I find there is a lesson in the absence of it too.

I founds a very sweet song called "The Song of Redeeming Love", by Max Walters. I couldn't make out all the words but really that how I first awake to most songs. I only catch key words here and there. Enough to ponder on until I understand it all. Once I understood these words they were my heart. I could picture David sweetly singing it as a psalm too.

The Song of Redeeming Love

Oh, Lord of the heavens, to thee give I praise;
Praise and rejoicing are now my new ways.
I'll sing of thy Power, they strength and thy might.
For time ever more I will do what is right.

Oh, Savior Redeemer, of thee will I boast.
God of the heaven, Lord of the Host.
Praise to my Savior, high up above.
I'm ransomed, I'm clean.
I'm redeemed by thy love.

Shall I not now sing my sweet praises to thee;
My life from here on shall be pleasing you'll see.
My heart has been changed, Lord, only love do I feel.
I'll praise thee for ever, my heart thou didst heal.

Oh, Savior Redeemer, of thee will I boast.
God of the heaven, Lord of the Host.
Praise to my Savior, high up above.
I'm ransomed, I'm clean.
I'm redeemed by thy love.

Awake, oh my soul, and rejoice, oh my heart.
I'll love thee and serve thee and now do my part.
Thy love, my dear Savior, I'll spread all around.
That only pure love 'mongst thy children is found.

Oh praise him, oh praise him, oh praise him I sing.
To thee, my dear Savior, willing heart do I bring.
I rejoice, I am grateful to thee up above.
I'm ransomed, I'm clean,
I'm redeemed by thy love.

Oh, Savior Redeemer, of thee will I boast.
God of the heaven, Lord of the Host.
Praise to my Savior, high up above.
I'm ransomed, I'm clean.
I'm redeemed by thy love.

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 40:3

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 40:3
"And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord."

David wrote hymns and these psalms come from his music. I have often wondered how the melody would have played with these words? It also reminds me of the hymns that awaken me in the morning or come into my mind at different times throughout the day. How they instruct and encourage me. Lately, this has made me reflect on a part of my patriarchal blessing that I received when I was 15 years old.  "Seek those things in life which are edifying and uplifting--the beautiful things of life, the arts, music, science, and shun those things which are of darkness."

I thought at the time it meant I had some undeveloped musical talent within me. Something I have come to learn is not my gift. Lately as I hear the songs of redeeming love I know that music is a way the spirit touches my soul. It is how I am instructed and taught to ponder the ways of the Lord. When I hear the hymns they are so beautiful to me. Appreciation of music has become my gift. They edify and uplift me. No one hears the music within me they're my special messages from God.

The song of my heart...."Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing"

Today's Favorite Verse: D&C 25:12

Today's Favorite Verse: Doctrine & Covenants 25:12
"For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads."

I have noticed that my taste in music has changed the more I read the scriptures. I will wake in the morning with the songs of redeeming love in my mind. It is a glorious way to greet the morning. As I have felt sorrow or grief the music and words to hymns will come to my mind. Often they will have special meaning or bring greater understanding to me. I have done much reflection on the importance of hymns in my life. Yes, I agree that they are a prayer to God. I also think God answers back in song too. I wonder if that is what is meant here "and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads."
