Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 18:2

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 18:2
"The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower."

During our recent stake conference our visiting Area Seventy mentioned years before he was interviewed when they were looking for a new Stake Presidency. I forget what calling he had at the time. One question he was asked is to explain his relationship with the Lord. At the time he had a personal relationship with God in prayer, but was stumped on how to explain his relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ. He told them he would have to do more thinking on that. Since then I've thought of that and have had many different conversations with myself on how I would explain my personal relationship with the Savior. As I read this verse I see listed many of the areas I too would say.

Today's Favorite Verse: John 20:16

Today's Favorite Verse: John 20:16
"Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master."

I love how Mary sees two angels inside the tomb and she is not afraid. She answers their question. All she wanted to know is where Jesus was laid. Then she turns around and thinks she sees the gardener and asks where he has been laid. It was only when the Lord spoke her name that she recognized him. She had a personal relationship with the Lord and was actively seeking him, and found Him.

Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Nephi 8:7-8

Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Nephi 8:7-8
"And it came to pass that as I followed him I beheld myself that I was in a dark and dreary waste.
And after I had traveled for the space of many hours in darkness, I began to pray unto the Lord that he would have mercy on me, according to the multitude of his tender mercies."

What this verse makes me ponder on is that I can see an angel or messenger from God and listen and follow him and still feel I am in a dreary waste. The condition does not change until I discover my need for a deeper relationship with the Lord. That is who the messengers of God are pointing the way to. I need to be in a partnership with the Lord, and come to understand my need for his tender mercies. In the story of Lehi's family I see this in the actions of Laman and Lemuel verses Nephi and Sam. They all see an angel yet it is only Nephi that works to build that relationship with the Lord.

Today's Favorite Verse: Jeremiah 14:3

Today's Favorite Verse: Jeremiah 14:3
"And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads."

I thought of living water, which is Jesus Christ himself. I can't send someone else in search of this water for me. The relationship with the Savior must be one on one. If not then my vessel will be empty when I need Him the most. I cannot live on borrowed light.

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 49:17

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 49:17
"For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him."

Must be where the saying "You can't take it with you." comes from. Wealth, power, fame and glory will not follow after me when dead. It is only the essence of who I have become, what I learned, what I experienced, and my relationship with the Lord that have any meaning.
