Today's Favorite Verse: Doctrine & Covenants 69:3, 8

Today's Favorite Verse: Doctrine & Covenants 69:3, 8
"And also that he shall continue in writing and making a history of all the important things which he shall observe and know concerning my church;
Preaching and expounding, writing, copying, selecting, and obtaining all things which shall be for the good of the church, and for the rising generations that shall grow up on the land of Zion, to possess it from generation to generation, forever and ever. Amen."

I am so grateful that the Lord called those to keep a record and history of the church since its early days. I made me ponder on how there was much talk about keeping personal journals when I was young. I was very faithful in doing that. I do mourn the loss of keeping one when my children were very young. I have since kept one and being able to go back and check dates when things happened have been vital at times. I do wish I had copies of my parents journals. Sadly, my siblings have them and have not made copies to share.

Today's Favorite Verse: Moroni 1:4

Today's Favorite Verse: Moroni 1:4
"Wherefore, I write a few more things, contrary to that which I had supposed; for I had supposed not to have written any more; but I write a few more things, that perhaps they may be of worth unto my brethren, the Lamanites, in some future day, according to the will of the Lord."

Though Moroni's writing had a much greater purpose than mine, I thought of my personal and scripture journals. How what I write may some day be of worth to my posterity or family relations. How I would love to read the journals of my ancestors. Even more so to hear of their conversion to the gospel and their faith promoting spiritual experiences.

Today's Favorite Verse: Esther 2:23

Today's Favorite Verse: Esther 2:23
"And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king."

Esther is chosen as the next queen. Mordecai learns of a plot and reports it to the king through Esther. When this plot is exposed and the men hanged it is written in the book of the chronicles along with Mordecai's name. This record will become very important later on. I pondered on keeping a journal. How important my daily log of events have been to me over the years. I have referred to it many times in my life. I have found things useful that I would have never thought important at the time.

Today's Favorite Verse: Jacob 4:2-4

Today's Favorite Verse: Jacob 4:2-4
"But whatsoever things we write upon anything save it be upon plates must perish and vanish away; but we can write a few words upon plates, which will give our children, and also our beloved brethren, a small degree of knowledge concerning us, or concerning their fathers -
Now in this thing we do rejoice; and we labor diligently to engraven these words upon plates, hoping that our beloved brethren and our children will receive them with thankful hearts, and look upon them that they may learn with joy and not with sorrow, neither with contempt, concerning their first parents.
For, for this intent have we written these things, that they may know that we knew of Christ, and we had a hope of his glory many hundred years before his coming; and not only we ourselves had a hope of his glory, but also all the holy prophets which were before us."

It has been impressed upon me lately that I need to keep a better journal. I have been faithfully keeping a Daily To-Do list that I track what I've done throughout the day. Often I note events with longer comments. But, now I really need to record more of my thoughts, impressions and what motivated me to do certain things. Lately it seemed like one day feels like a week's worth of events have been happening around me. I could kick myself for not recording my feelings as we have been passing through pandemic events. This verse just reinforces my need to keep a better journal, not just for me but for my children. Though I have not recorded things as I wish I still need to go back and do this.

Day 1822

Today's Favorite Verse: Numbers 33:2

Today's Favorite Verse: Numbers 33:2
"And Moses wrote their goings out according to their journeys by the commandment of the Lord: and these are their journeys according to their goings out."

So Moses is told to keep a record of their journeying. Just like Nephi was commanded to do the same. Then there is a long list of all the places they stopped in the past 40 years. I counted roughly 47 places that they camped. I find it interesting that not only does God have us keep a record of spiritual experiences but also a personal history. I wonder where all of Moses' records are? This all made me ponder on my journals and records that I keep. I wonder if people will know where to find them all when I die?  I have to do a better job at transcribing them and getting them all in one place. My goal is when I die to have my life contained on a hard drive. Then copies can be made and shared with members of my family. I just never know who will pickup my genealogy after me. Multiple copies means there is a chance, that the person that will carry on my life's work will find them. I need to scan my journals so they are all on that hard drive.
