Today's Favorite Verse: Doctrine & Covenants 91:3

Today's Favorite Verse: Doctrine & Covenants 91:3
"Verily, I say unto you, that it is not needful that the Apocrypha should be translated."

I've read the Apocrypha and I think everyone should at least once. There were parts I felt the spirit and other parts I did not. The Lord said there are things true and some things that are not true and are interpolations of men. I can understand how it was not necessary to translate it. When you mingle truth and error the effort to untangle it becomes like salt that has lost its savor. How does it lose its savor? It's by being polluted or contaminated. If you mix sand into salt it has no value as salt any longer. I feel like the experience of reading the Apocrypha was to my benefit but to dig deeper into it would start to go beyond the mark.

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."
(Matthew 5:13)

Today's Favorite Verse: Mark 9:50

Today's Favorite Verse: Mark 9:50
"Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another."

What makes salt no longer salty? It's when it has become contaminated by outside things. That is what happens to people too.

"When men are called unto mine everlasting gospel, and covenant, they are accounted as the salt of the earth and the savor of men;
They are called to be the savor of men; therefore, if that salt of the earth lose its savor, behold, it is thenceforth good for nothing only to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men."
(Doctrine and Covenants 101:39-40)

Through making sacred covenants with the Lord we are considered the salt of the earth. Salt like covenants have amazing properties. It needs to be internalized.

Salt & Covenants

Salt is essential for the body (needed more than water)
Salt flavors
Salt preserves
Salt transforms
Salt acts as a catalyst
Salt creates thirst
Salt stays pure unless something is mixed with and contaminates it.

Covenants are essential for the soul
Covenants give flavor to life
Covenants preserve
Covenants transform
Covenants act as a catalyst
Covenants create a dependence
Covenants are eternal. They have a remarkable staying power unless we break them through sin and contaminate them that way.

If we contaminate ourselves through sin we have lost our savor and will be cast out and trodden under foot. The beautiful things with covenants is that salt can be restored through the gift of repentance. We don't have to remain in the state if we don't want to.

Today's Favorite Verse: Leviticus 2:13

Today's Favorite Verse: Leviticus 2:13
"And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt."

This verse made me thing of Matthew 5:13 "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."

I pondered on how I can go through the motions. Look like I'm serving and my offering is not good enough, if I have lost my savour. It will be counted to me as good for nothing if my heart is not in it. What makes the difference of an acceptable offering is if I season it with my heart.

Day 667

Today's Favorite Verse: Leviticus 1:3-4

Today's Favorite Verse: Leviticus 1:3-4
"If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord.
And he shall put his hand upon the offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him."

The male animal without blemish was a similitude of my Savior. I pondered on the atonement, and His great voluntary sacrifice for me. I thought of the Israelite looking for find such an unblemished male animal in his day. Then I saw how what he was doing, looking for Christ, is exactly what I need to do. I need to be searching for him everywhere and in everything that I do. Forever looking towards the Christ. As I seek Him I come to know him.
