Today's Favorite Verse: Job 42:10-13

Today's Favorite Verse: Job 42:10-13
"And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.
Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.
So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.
He had also seven sons and three daughters."

I love the ending of the story of Job. Job prays for his friends that spoke wrong in the Lord's eyes. That is forgiveness. Then Job's brothers and sisters all gather around him and comfort him. They each give him some money and gold. Then Job is blessed in the end double the sheep, camels, oxen, and asses then before. As for children, his is blessed again with the same number. Now for the eternities Job has 14 sons and 6 daughters, for the ones that died as still his too.

Today's Favorite Verse: Ecclesiastes 2:11

Today's Favorite Verse: Ecclesiastes 2:11
"Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun."

I pondered on our mortal probation. All our labors would be for naught if it didn't bring us closer to God. King Solomon was rich beyond measure and had great wisdom. Yet in the end it meant nothing for he turned his back on God. The wealth and power he had on earth were vanity and fleeting. He could have had the riches of eternity.

Today's Favorite Verse: Exodus 38:8

Today's Favorite Verse: Exodus 38:8
"And he made the laver of brass, and the foot of it of brass, of the lookingglasses of the women assembling, which assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation."

The footnote for lookingglasses is mirrors.

The mention of mirrors made me think about the temple mirrors of eternity. They are found in today's temple to symbolize the past, present and eternity. When I thought about how these women's mirrors made of brass, were used to create the laver (wash basin) it made me think of the broken china added to the Kirtland Temple plaster to make it sparkle. It's lovely to think of the women's contributions in both past and present temples.

Today's Favorite Verse: Doctrine & Covenants 132:13

Today's Favorite Verse: Doctrine & Covenants 132:13

"And everything that is in the world, whether it be ordained by men, by thrones, or principalities, or powers, or things of name, whatsoever they may be, that are not by me or by my word, saith the Lord, shall be thrown down, and shall not remain after men are dead, neither in nor after the resurrection, saith the Lord your God."

This chapter is going over the new and everlasting covenant, eternal marriage. I pondered on how regardless of man creating laws it cannot establish or change the laws God has set. One could at first think of same-sex marriages and man changing the law to support and legalize them. However, what I thought of was a marriage license between a man and woman. Legally and lawfully married in their church. Regardless, that marriage will not survive into the eternities. It remains till death us do part. It is only through the ordinances ordained by God, in his holy temples, that a sealing can take place between a man and a woman, that will last through the eternities. Those that did not have that opportunity in this life, will have the opportunity to accept the ordinances by proxy, done in their behalf in the house of the Lord.

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 144:4

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 144:4
"Man is like a vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away."

It made me ponder on history and how many speak from the dust. There are lessons to learn from history, yet man does not seem to learn. The problems of history repeat themselves. Why is that? Then I realized that man may not learn from history, but his saints will. God's holy scriptures are here to learn and to grown from. If we are not vain enough to think we do not need them. Each man in his own time will pass away, but then we stand before God and account for it. It maybe a shadow in time, but it will mark the eternities.
