Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 74:9

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 74:9
"We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long."

Going through these last days would be so difficult and scary if there was not a prophet of God upon the earth. Yet, there is one. It is Russell M. Nelson that leads The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He receives revelation for our day. He prepares us for the second coming of the Lord. Listening and obeying the prophet has brought peace to my soul in the midst of an ever darkening world. I am grateful to know that the priesthood of God and a prophet will never be taken from the earth again until Jesus Christ reigns upon the earth.

"Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets."
(Amos 3:7)

Day 2711

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 73:26

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 73:26
My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever."

I pondered on aging and how the older I get the more I rely on the Lord. How he truly does strengthen me in so many ways.

Day 2710

Monday, August 29, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 72:18

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 72:18
"Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things."

This made me think of my favorite quote of President Nelson.

"Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory. But in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost."
(Russell M. Nelson, "Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives", April 2018, General Conference)

The other day I was reflecting on one of the Lord's mightiest works in the past, the parting of the Red Sea and read this.

"Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers."
(Jeremiah 16:14-15)

I realized that when we mentions our fathers we don't speak of the children of Israel being brought out of Egypt and the parting of the Red Sea. What we speak of is our pioneer ancestors that crossed the plains. We even celebrate a holiday called Pioneer Day to commemorate that event. When I reflected on this and how I've always thought of the lost ten tribes returning on a highway built up as a future event, has probably already happened and is still happening. So many verses I visited began to show me the highway that was to be built up may just mean the covenant path we are now on. Searching the footnotes on Doctrine and Covenants 133:26-27 had some choice verses linked to it.

"And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.
No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there:
And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away."
(Isaiah 35:8-10)

One of the greatest works today is the Lord's missionary force gathering God's elect from the four corners of the earth. Those that were lost are now finding their true identities as God's covenant people.

Day 2709

Sunday, August 28, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 71:17

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 71:17
"O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works."

This made me think about my dear parents. Both are gone now. They taught me from my youth to love God. One of my favorite times as a child was having family home evening. Not only was there family fun that drew us closer together, we sang hymns and had a gospel lesson. Every morning we had family prayer before my father left for work. Many times that was before the sun was even up. It was hard but it was good at the same time. It made me feel safe. There is something about knowing people are praying for you. I reflected on my own family and how much a part of daily family scriptures and prayers are for us. There was a time we had to have scriptures around midnight. Sometimes we would go to bed and then wake up when my husband came home from work to have them. You make time for what you love, and who you love.

Day 2708

Saturday, August 27, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 70:4

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 70:4
"Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified."

This verse made me think of this.

"Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."
(Doctrine and Covenants 88:63)

Day 2707

Friday, August 26, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 69:30

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 69:30
"I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving."

I reflected on my favorite hymns and the gospel truths found in them. I spent time listening to them on YouTube. I had to find the version of "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" where the dear brother has tears streaming down his face as he sang. Watching him just moves me, because that's how I feel. Then I looked for the hymn "What Is This Thing That Men Call Death?" that President Gordan B. Hinckley wrote, and Janice Kapp Perry set to music. It was sung at his funeral. This in turn made me find the hymn written by Bruce R. McConkie. This version has Bruce R. McConkie's last testimony with him speaking the words to "I Believe in Christ" while the Tabernacle Choir sings. You know he knows the Lord.

Next, I had to find the hymn our dear prophet Russell M. Nelson wrote "Our Prayer to Thee". To finish, I selected the hymn from this last General Conference, that touched my heart deeply, "It is Well with My Soul". How I love the hymns. I have so many favorites. They fill my soul.

Day 2706

Thursday, August 25, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 68:9

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 68:9
"Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain, whereby thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary."

It made me think of the drought we've been under and the rains that we have now been receiving. As I have been reading the dedicatory prayers of the temples the one for Salt Lake Temple was of particular interest.

"Our Father, may peace abide in all the homes of Thy Saints; may holy angels guard them; may they be encompassed by Thine arms of love; may prosperity shine upon them, and may the tempter and the destroyer be removed far from them. May the days of Thy covenant people be lengthened out in righteousness, and sickness and disease be rebuked from their midst. May the land they inhabit be made fruitful by Thy grace, may its waters be increased and the climate be tempered to the comfort and need of Thy people; may drought, devastating storms, cyclones, and hurricanes be kept afar off, and earthquakes never disturb the land which Thou hast given us. May locusts, caterpillars and other insects not destroy our garden and desolate our fields; but may we be a people blessed of Thee in our bodies and spirits, in our homes and habitations, in our flocks and herds, in ourselves and our posterity, and in all that Thou hast made us stewards over."

Since the temple has been decommissioned for the renovation of the temple we have seen sickness and disease. We had drought and an earthquake. I wondered if these would last until the temple was back in operation. Much more rain is needed until this drought is over. I am grateful for God's mercy upon us for we truly have been weary.

Day 2705

Wednesday, August 24, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 67:4

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 67:4
"O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah."

This chapter and verse made me ponder on the Lord's Second Coming. When he will rule through the Millennium and judge righteously. He will govern all the earth. That truly will be a glad and joyous day. I reflected on how I thought this event was many, many years away. That much had to happen before then. Lately, I feel it coming closer and closer. Yet, I have no anxiety or fear. I am truly able to leave the timing in the Lord's hands. I don't wish it to come sooner, or stay far away. I maybe alive for it, or not. All I know is that wherever I am it will be as it should be.

Day 2704

Tuesday, August 23, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 66:16

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 66:16
"Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul."

This made me think of testimony meetings, and how we share what wondrous things God has done for our souls.

"Nevertheless, ye are blessed, for the testimony which ye have borne is recorded in heaven for the angels to look upon; and they rejoice over you, and your sins are forgiven you."
(Doctrine and Covenants 62:3)

"For I will forgive you of your sins with this commandment—that you remain steadfast in your minds in solemnity and the spirit of prayer, in bearing testimony to all the world of those things which are communicated unto you."
(Doctrine and Covenants 84:61)

“For the strength of the Church is not in the numbers, nor in the amount of tithes and offerings paid by faithful members, nor in the magnitude of chapels and temple buildings, but because in the hearts of faithful members of the Church is the conviction that this is indeed the Church and kingdom of God on the earth.”
(Harold B. Lee, "Strengthen the Stakes of Zion", April 1973, General Conference"

Day 2703

Monday, August 22, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 65:9

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 65:9
"Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it."

This made me think of the weather. The only bearing I feel man has on it is by his obedience or lack of it to God. The scriptures are full of how the God controls the elements.

"And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?"
(Matthew 16:3)

Day 2702

Sunday, August 21, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 64:8

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 64:8
"So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away."

I have witnessed this week several examples where the lies told by others, and the pit they dug for someone else, is where they have landed. It is not a pleasure to witness, it is rather sad. At the same time you see the hand of the Lord in preserving and protecting those that love Him.

"And that great pit, which hath been digged for them by that great and abominable church, which was founded by the devil and his children, that he might lead away the souls of men down to hell—yea, that great pit which hath been digged for the destruction of men shall be filled by those who digged it, unto their utter destruction, saith the Lamb of God; not the destruction of the soul, save it be the casting of it into that hell which hath no end."
(1 Nephi 14:3)

"That no weapon formed against them shall prosper; that he who diggeth a pit for them shall fall into the same himself;"
(Doctrine and Covenants 109:25)

Day 2701

Saturday, August 20, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 63:1

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 63:1
"O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;"

The mention of seeking God early reminded me of President Nelson's talk where he said "Time is running out". There is no time to waste in seeking God. The time is now.

"Now, as President of His Church, I plead with you who have distanced yourselves from the Church and with you who have not yet really sought to know that the Savior’s Church has been restored. Do the spiritual work to find out for yourselves, and please do it now. Time is running out."
(Russell M. Nelson, "Come, Follow Me", April 2019, General Conference)

Day 2700

Friday, August 19, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 62:7

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 62:7
"In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God."

I pondered on how you could only say this, if you knew from your own experience how God works in your life. This is the purpose of trials and being made to endure. It's how we learn to turn to the Lord for strength and refuge.

Day 2699

Thursday, August 18, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 61:2

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 61:2
"From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I."

This reminds me of when I shattered my wrist and the extreme pain I was under. It went on for days and weeks. It was so overwhelming at times. I remember all I could do in those moments was cry to the Lord for some relief. The pain didn't go away but my ability to endure did. I could feel His comforting arms around me. I wasn't in this journey alone. You can have peace and comfort in the midst of a terrible storm.

Day 2698

Wednesday, August 17, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 60:11-12

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 60:11-12
"Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.
Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies."

God will work through man, for we can be his ministering angels to others. What is vain is to think man will solve your problems instead of God.

Day 2697

Tuesday, August 16, 2022

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 59:12

Today's Favorite Verse: Psalms 59:12
"For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak."

This made me wonder if cursing and lying are a sign of pride? I know pride is the downfall of even the righteous if they are not careful. It is the one tool Satan can use to crack their shell, by making the righteous take pride in being righteous. As I pondered on this I reviewed the scriptures in the Bible Dictionary to see when pride and lying are mentioned together. It does appear nothing good comes from pride, for once that overtakes a person they are opened to all sins. Lying would just be a way to cover them up.

"A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,"
(Proverbs 6:17)

"The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate."
(Proverbs 8:13)

"We have heard of the pride of Moab; he is very proud: even of his haughtiness, and his pride, and his wrath: but his lies shall not be so."
(Isaiah 16:6)

"Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,"
(Romans 1:30)

"He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,"
(1 Timothy 6:4)

"And the large and spacious building, which thy father saw, is vain imaginations and the pride of the children of men. And a great and a terrible gulf divideth them; yea, even the word of the justice of the Eternal God, and the Messiah who is the Lamb of God, of whom the Holy Ghost beareth record, from the beginning of the world until this time, and from this time henceforth and forever."
(1 Nephi 12:18)

"For those who did not belong to their church did indulge themselves in sorceries, and in idolatry or idleness, and in babblings, and in envyings and strife; wearing costly apparel; being lifted up in the pride of their own eyes; persecuting, lying, thieving, robbing, committing whoredoms, and murdering, and all manner of wickedness; nevertheless, the law was put in force upon all those who did transgress it, inasmuch as it was possible."
(Alma 1:32)

"Now this great loss of the Nephites, and the great slaughter which was among them, would not have happened had it not been for their wickedness and their abomination which was among them; yea, and it was among those also who professed to belong to the church of God.
And it was because of the pride of their hearts, because of their exceeding riches, yea, it was because of their oppression to the poor, withholding their food from the hungry, withholding their clothing from the naked, and smiting their humble brethren upon the cheek, making a mock of that which was sacred, denying the spirit of prophecy and of revelation, murdering, plundering, lying, stealing, committing adultery, rising up in great contentions, and deserting away into the land of Nephi, among the Lamanites—
And because of this their great wickedness, and their boastings in their own strength, they were left in their own strength; therefore they did not prosper, but were afflicted and smitten, and driven before the Lamanites, until they had lost possession of almost all their lands."
(Helaman 4:11-13)

"Ye do not remember the Lord your God in the things with which he hath blessed you, but ye do always remember your riches, not to thank the Lord your God for them; yea, your hearts are not drawn out unto the Lord, but they do swell with great pride, unto boasting, and unto great swelling, envyings, strifes, malice, persecutions, and murders, and all manner of iniquities."
(Helaman 13:22)

Day 2696
