Today's Favorite Verse: Helaman 11:7, 34, 37

Today's Favorite Verse: Helaman 11:7, 34, 37
"And it came to pass that the people saw that they were about to perish by famine, and they began to remember the Lord their God; and they began to remember the words of Nephi.
Now this great evil, which came unto the people because of their iniquity, did stir them up again in remembrance of the Lord their God.
And it came to pass in the eighty and fifth year they did wax stronger and stronger in their pride, and in their wickedness; and thus they were ripening again for destruction."

In this chapter the people experience contentions and wars amongst themselves. Nephi prays that instead of perishing by the sword that there be a famine. Hearts are softened as they being to perish by famine. They repent for a time. Then they begin to content concerning points of doctrine. That the brethren preach true points of doctrine to them.  After that they have dissenters that "search out all the secret plans of Gadianton; and thus they became robbers of Gadianton." (verse 26) Then there are battles while trying to destroy the Gadianton robbers. Through all this the people are stirred up in remembrance of their God. But, it doesn't last, they again turn to their pride and wickedness and are ripe for destruction. It's a pretty sad chapter to see that they just don't learn that to be righteous brings peace and blessings upon the land.

The people then are no different than the people today. I remember when 911 happened and how people prayed and came together and we cherished each other for a moment. Then in a matter of a few short years we just grew more wicked and a perverse people. We are in the same cycle that the Nephites are going through. Sadly, it appears with this world wide pandemic, and the civil unrest's happening that few appear to be turning their hearts to God. That made me think instead of those that were righteous how did they fair? Then I recall Nephi and his brother Lehi are faithful. In verse 23 it even mentions those that "knew concerning the true points of doctrine, having many revelations daily". So on one hand there are very wicked people, and on the other there are humble followers of Christ that are receiving revelation daily. All was not dark depending on what side you were on.
