Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Nephi 3:3-6

Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Nephi 3:3-6 "For behold, Laban hath the record of the Jews and also a genealogy of my forefathers, and they are engraven upon plates of brass. Wherefore, the Lord hath commanded me that thou and thy brothers should go unto the house of Laban, and seek the records, and bring them down hither into the wilderness. And now, behold thy brothers murmur, saying it is a hard thing which I have required of them; but behold I have not required it of them, but it is a commandment of the Lord. Therefore go, my son, and thou shalt be favored of the Lord, because thou hast not murmured." This made me think of family history and how we have been encouraged to search the records for our kindred dead, and perform vicarious work for them in the House of the Lord. Every general conference there is at least one talk about this. Family history has been a passion of mine since childhood. I found the family cemeteries on either side of our home a place of refuge and loved sitting and pondering there. I took my first genealogy class when I was 15 years old. Today its my career. These verses made me think of those that murmur and find it a hard thing asked of them to do. They are so quick to give up like Laman and Lemuel did. This was the first time I made the connection to us today. My testimony of this gospel and life after death has only grown because of being involved in this great work of redeeming the dead.
