Today's Favorite Verse: Jeremiah 16:10-12

Today's Favorite Verse: Jeremiah 16:10-12
"And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?
Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;
And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me:"

This made me think of what Jesus said to the Pharisees.

"Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.
Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;"
(Luke 11:47-50)

I believe the second Article of Faith.
"We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression."

So why where the people of Jeremiah's time and during the Savior's earthly ministry punished for their father's sins? It's because they embrace the false teaching of their fathers. They became even more corrupt. Not only where the Pharisees false priests in their day. They were worst than the priest of Baal and idol worshippers that sacrificed prophets and innocent children. These were people in Jesus' time that would crucify the very Son of God.
