Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Corinthians 16:1-2

Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Corinthians 16:1-2
"Now concerning the collection from the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gathering when I come.

It reminded me of the talk President Russell M. Nelson gave today in the Sunday morning session of General Conference. He discussed the donations of Fast Offerings and Humanitarian aid the saints have been able to provide to those in need. How much of it has been given in disaster relief. Paul in this chapter was speaking to the saints in Corinth taking up a collection for the saints in need. If I remember correctly it was for the saints in Jerusalem. He wanted it collected in advance so when he came it didn't need to be gathered. Seems preparedness and self-reliance was part of the early church. Not surprising when you think of the counsel to have charity for others.
