Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Kings 22:7-8, 14, 23

Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Kings 22:7-8, 14, 23
"And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might inquire of him?
And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.
Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee. "

The Jehoshaphat king of Judah. and Ahab king of Israel join forces against Syria. Ahab calls 400 prophets to tell them if they should go to battle. These prophets of Ahab are not prophets of God. Jehoshaphat asks then if there isn't a prophet of the Lord for them to inquire of. There is but Ahab hates him because he only prophesizes evil concerning him. Micaiah, the prophet of the Lord says he will only speak what the Lord tells him. He tells them that Ahab's prophets have a lying spirit. The prophecy given to Micaiah is not what Ahab wants to hear, yet it is what comes to pass when that council is not followed. This all made me ponder on how man will listen to his own "prophets" that tell him what he wants to hear. That their wisdom is foolishness if not deadly. The wisdom gained through a prophet of the Lord will give us the council we need to follow.
