Today's Favorite Verse: Daniel 5:16-17

Today's Favorite Verse: Daniel 5:16-17
"And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation."

Belshazzar the king sees the fingers of a hand write upon the wall. He calls the wisemen, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers to interpret it. He promised them riches and the third ruler of the kingdom. None of them can interpret these words. The queen tells Belshazzar of Daniel and his ability. The king calls for Daniel and offers him the same rewards. I love how Daniel answers to give the gift and reward to another, yet he will read the writings. If Daniel had read the writings for these gifts and reward he would have been guilty of priestcraft.

"He commandeth that there shall be no priestcrafts; for, behold, priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain and praise of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion."
