"Behold, do ye not remember the words which he spake unto Lehi, saying that: Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper in the land? And again it is said that: Inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments ye shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord."
I had a conversation with someone today on this very thing. Obedience is key to having the spirit of the Lord with us. When we are disobedient to the words He has given, and through his prophet we will be cut off. That means the spirit is no longer our guide. We are left to our own devices and wisdom. Which wisdom is foolishness. When we are foolish we will not prosper, for there are very hard lessons we must learn, which may lead to our utter destruction..
"For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness."
(1 Corinthians 3:19)
"O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish."
