Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Samuel 5:2-3, 6

Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Samuel 5:2-3, 6
"When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof."

The Philistines place the ark of the covenant in the house of Dagon whom they worshipped. First the idol Dagon is knocked over, next the head and arms are cut off. Then they are affected with tumors and boils. So then they decide to move the ark to Gath and destruction follows to that city and they are stricken with tumors and boils. Next they send the ark to Ekron and the people there are afraid it will slay them. Now they want to send the ark back to its own place for there is deadly destruction and the men that remain alive are afflicted with tumor and boils..

As I'm reading this I think of how God is able to do his own work.

"Then shall the Lord God say unto him: The learned shall not read them, for they have rejected them, and I am able to do mine own work; wherefore thou shalt read the words which I shall give unto thee.
Touch not the things which are sealed, for I will bring them forth in mine own due time; for I will show unto the children of men that I am able to do mine own work."
