Today's Favorite Verse: Deuteronomy 18:20-22

Today's Favorite Verse: Deuteronomy 18:20-22
"But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?
When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him."

This is speaking of false prophets. People that say they are speaking the words of the Lord and do not. The way to tell when they are a false prophet is when what they prophesied does not come true. As I pondered on false prophets I realized that I often think of them as people that say they received revelation. Those individuals are pretty easy for me to spot and stay clear of because they do not have proper authority. Now I can see that it's not as clear as that. It would be anyone that wrest the scriptures and gives their interpretation of them. A favorite subject is the signs of the times and last days, often mingled with astrology and numerology. That made me go back in the chapter because it warns twice about the "observes of times.
