Today's Favorite Verse: 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9

Today's favorite verse: 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9
"And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels.
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;"

I have a great depth of sorrow of my brothers and sisters that are being deceived and have turned away from God. How can the coming of the Lord and their destruction bring me any joy? Is that part of how that day will be great and terrible? Can I stand to see loved ones not with me, or anyone for that matter? Can I say I have wept great tears over them again this morning. The glory of seeing my Lord and being in his presence I am told will bring rest to my troubles. Will it comfort my heart over those that are not there? I have to believe it is possible, for with God all things are possible. For now I must continue to pray for them, love them, and wait upon the spirit and His inspiration to help those within my sphere of influence. There is still time to repent.

Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:19

Today's favorite verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:19
"Quench not the Spirit"

Such a tiny verse but it really made me sit and ponder. The footnotes for Quench gives "Extinguish, Hinder, Suppress". For some reason I don't think this means you have the spirit leave due to disobedience or sin. I think a person is entitled to the spirit but they turn it away. I know I have been guilty of that. There are times I feel the spirit and try so hard to stop feeling it so I don't cry and make a spectacle of myself. I wonder if doing that the spirit will soon feel like an unwelcome guest? Would he soon stop visiting me even though I am entitled to a visit? Do I really have to cry more than I already do? Tomorrow is Sunday and I will have opportunity to feel the spirit many times. I am going to have to experiment on my reactions. Maybe I could say a silent prayer and know better how to not quench the spirit but control my emotions. This is the first I have realized I might be doing something wrong, so I have more pondering to do on this.

Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

Today's favorite verse: 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
"And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing."

I have family scriptures every day. Afterwards we usually stay and talk together and discuss the world events and how we see them as signs of our times. Where examples from the scriptures fit different situations being faced today. We had a discussion on how various Christians are going through persecutions. How much do we say and when do we stand up for our beliefs. I felt impressed to say just go about your business. Don't draw attention to yourself. We don't pick the battle the Lord does. But when you speak be honest. Someones calls you narrow minded, just agree with them that you are narrow mind, because straight is the gate and narrow is the way.

I found it so interesting that after this family discussion I see today in my scripture reading the very thing we are to do. Be quiet, go about your own business, and be honest. Part of being honest is to be loyal to our God. We can never stop living our religion and our worship of Him. Even the works of our own hands should honor what he has commanded. If any battles are to be fought stay on the Lords side. Even if you look like you lost you really won.

Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Thessalonians 3:10

Today's favorite verse: 1 Thessalonians 3:10
"Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?"

Paul is desiring to see the face of the Thessalonians and perfect them in their faith. This made me sit and ponder where am I lacking in faith? I have had a stupor of thought on that. Paul tells us he prayed to know. So I to prayed to know. Still I don't know. What I do know is I will not stop praying. For the spirit will show me the way to be more perfect in my faith and have nothing lacking. I feel like I am just starting to peel away a new onion to find layers that I never knew existed. I had never thought to ask that question before, now I am on a journey to know.
