Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Thessalonians 2:13

Today's favorite verse: 1 Thessalonians 2:13
"For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe."

As I have been prayerfully writing my favorite verse I have experienced a marvelous thing. Words will struggle to come but slowly they will form. When I am done what I see on the page is so profound to me. I marvel as I read them and will go back and read them over and over again. I have learned truths I didn't know when I began. I know the spirit is totally the inspiration and its not me. I am not clever enough by myself. I know what I write is being read by others. If any converting is being done it is not by the words of a man. For truth only comes from God. It is through the spirit that men are converted. No one can truly convert another person to Christ. We can only be a source for doors to be opened.

Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Thessalonians 1:9

Today's favorite verse: 1 Thessalonians 1:9
"For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God."

I did a lot of pondering on idols. I thought about what they were and where I am guilty of letting worldly things control me and not me controlling it. The biggest issue I have is technology wasting my time. Anytime I waste time I am not serving God as I could. One problem I have had is Facebook. It can completely waste my time or I can use it for good, like sharing the gospel or getting closer to family members.

The answer is to master it and not let it master me. I don't want it to move the true master out of his place in my life. I simply don't want to use things as idols but only as the Lord intended to have them bless my life. As I have pondered over my current means of controlling my Facebook time I have received inspiration on several ways I can improve things in this area. Scripture time is so important, I love how pondering simple verses can open up inspiration to improve areas in my personal life.

Today's Favorite Verse: Colossians 4:6

Today's favorite verse: Colossians 4:6
"Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man."

I have to admit when I read that my speech was to be seasoned with salt, my first impression was pouring salt into an open wound. I knew that image was not right, so I pondered on what salt meant. Then I remembered that salt brings flavor to food, otherwise it can be bland and good for nothing. This lead me on a scripture chase of all the verses that contained salt. I didn't realize there is a covenant of salt. Salt was an important item in the law of Moses. I couldn't help but think of Elder Packer's role in my being able to do that scripture chase. Here was an man to be counted as being the salt of the earth.

So now I think I am beginning to understand this verse and salt better. I must speak with kindness and grace towards others. My words must be savored with salt, to make the gospel taste good to others. To bring out the desire to supp at the table of the Lord. This savor will bring forth the goodness of the Lord. Salt can sting if we have open wounds, but it can also be used to preserve foods. Likewise the salt of the gospel preserves our souls and heals opens wounds. If I cook meat that is salted it brings out a delicious savor. Likewise the heat I experience in life, by my trials and tests brings out the greatest savor in me. I also cannot overlook the similarity of the words savor and Savior. The only difference is the "i". I alone can make the difference if I am counted as his salt. As I obtain more savor I can become like my Savior. By entering into everlasting covenants I am made as the salt of the earth and the savor of men. May I never be salt that loses its savor, and be counted as good for nothing.

Today's Favorite Verse: Colossians 3:16

Today's favorite verse: Colossians 3:16
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

I woke up really early this morning and I can never just lay in bed waiting to fall asleep again, it just doesn't happen. So I got up and decided to listen to the sweet hymns of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I felt such warmth and peace. Then I felt ready to read my scriptures and found this. I am so blessed to live in a day that I can just listen to recordings of the hymns any time I want. They bring comfort to me when troubled. Fill me with the spirit, and instruct with profound wisdom. They bring me closer to God.

One of my favorite hymns is "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" I am sharing it below.
