Today's Favorite Verse: 2 Chronicles 5:14

Today's Favorite Verse: 2 Chronicles 5:14
"So that the priest could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God."

This made me think about all the times in the Book of Mormon  were people were overcome by the spirit and  fell to the earth. The spirit in the temple must have been so strong that the priest limbs were weak causing them to not be able to stand.

This made me hunt for the story of Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon receiving the vision of the degrees of glory.

"By this time in his life Joseph Smith had become so used to looking beyond the veil that it was almost an everyday occurrence. When he and Sidney Rigdon were privileged at Father Johnson’s home in Hiram, Ohio, to have the revelation that is known as section 76 of the Doctrine and Covenants [D&C 76], he was so used to the Spirit of the Lord that he did not fall to the earth from exhaustion as Moses had done when he talked with God (Moses 1:9–10) and as he himself had done after the First Vision. In fact we see a little bit of Joseph’s humor in this incident. After the vision closed, Sidney was completely exhausted and had to lie down on the couch. Seeing Sidney’s pallor, Joseph remarked with a smile on his face: “Well, Brother Sidney is not as used to it as I am.” (Juvenile Instructor, vol. 27 [May 15, 1892], pp. 303–4.)"
(The New Era, December 1973, "The Greatness of Joseph Smith and His Remarkable Visions")

I sat and read that whole article it was very interesting.

Here's another witness' account.

“Joseph sat firmly and calmly all the time in the midst of a magnificent glory, but Sidney sat limp and pale, apparently as limber as a rag, observing which, Joseph remarked, smilingly, ‘Sidney is not used to it as I am.’” (Juvenile Instructor, May 1892, pp. 303–4.)"
