Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Nephi 10:17

Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Nephi 10:17
"And it came to pass after I, Nephi, having heard all the words of my father, concerning the things which he saw in a vision, and also the things which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost, which power he received by faith on the Son of God - and the Son of God was the Messiah who should come - I, Nephi, was desirous also that I might see, and hear, and know of these things, by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is the gift of God unto all those who diligently seek him, as well in times of old as in the time that he should manifest himself unto the children of men."

What strikes me about Nephi is he wanted to see what his father saw in vision, not so he would believe it, but because he did belief it. He had the kind of faith that already knew it was true, he had no doubt. I think he wanted to see these things so he could testify that the coming of the Messiah was real. It was important for his children and their posterity. They would be there to witness the coming of the resurrected Savior. It would be important to us to see that the Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever.

I pondered on how there is a difference between wanting to see a vision so you can believe and not needing to see a vision because you do believe. Then there is the desire to see because you believe. How does one know the difference? My heart is settled on the Holy Ghost being your guide. A person would go from believing and not needing to see a vision to desiring one, because the spirit prepared you. The gift of the Holy Ghost as your constant companion would move you to that change. When you live by the spirit whatever you ask for will be given you. Why? Because the spirit will only have you ask for whatever is the will of the Father. Then to me the desire Nephi spoke of would only come because it was the will of the Father to show him these things.
