Today's Favorite Verse: Job 24:24

Today's Favorite Verse: Job 24:24
"They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn."

Job is referring to the wicked that do prosper. In the scheme of the eternities it is but for a little while. Though like everyone else they will one day die, and then they will be brought low.

What I pondered on is spiritual death. They felt the effects of that even before a physical death. Even though one day they will be resurrected, they will remain spiritually dead, forever separated from God. While in the physical state they could have repented and overcome a spiritual death. This second death, a spiritual death, would always have a shadow of death over them. Maybe this is what Job meant in verse 17.

"For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death."
(Job 24:17)
