"The nights is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light."
This verse reminded me of the hymn written by Eliza R. Snow, "The Time is Far Spent". I had to find it and listen to it. I have not sung this in a very long time. I was hoping there was a Mack Wilberg arrangement performed by the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. If there was one I couldn't find it. However, I found this rendition of the hymn performed by the Denton Interfaith Choir and it's wonderful. The arrangement of the lyrics is moving. I have the original Eliza R. Snow lyrics below so I can compare the difference. The message however is what I wanted to hear the most. Amazing to think that I'm right here in this moment of time being spoken of.
The Time is Far Spent
The time is far spent; there is little remaining
To publish glad tidings by sea and by land.
Then hasten, ye heralds; go forward proclaiming:
Repent, for the kingdom of heaven’s at hand,
Repent, for the kingdom of heaven’s at hand.
Shrink not from your duty, however unpleasant,
But follow the Savior, your pattern and friend.
Our little afflictions, tho painful at present,
Ere long, with the righteous, in glory will end,
Ere long, with the righteous, in glory will end.
What, tho, if the favor of Ahman possessing,
This world’s bitter hate you are called to endure?
The angels are waiting to crown you with blessings!
Go forward, be faithful, the promise is sure.
Go forward, be faithful, the promise is sure.
Be fixed in your purpose, for Satan will try you;
The weight of your calling he perfectly knows.
Your path may be thorny, but Jesus is nigh you;
His arm is sufficient, tho demons oppose.
His arm is sufficient, tho demons oppose.
