Today's Favorite Verse: Mark 9:50

Today's Favorite Verse: Mark 9:50
"Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another."

What makes salt no longer salty? It's when it has become contaminated by outside things. That is what happens to people too.

"When men are called unto mine everlasting gospel, and covenant, they are accounted as the salt of the earth and the savor of men;
They are called to be the savor of men; therefore, if that salt of the earth lose its savor, behold, it is thenceforth good for nothing only to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men."
(Doctrine and Covenants 101:39-40)

Through making sacred covenants with the Lord we are considered the salt of the earth. Salt like covenants have amazing properties. It needs to be internalized.

Salt & Covenants

Salt is essential for the body (needed more than water)
Salt flavors
Salt preserves
Salt transforms
Salt acts as a catalyst
Salt creates thirst
Salt stays pure unless something is mixed with and contaminates it.

Covenants are essential for the soul
Covenants give flavor to life
Covenants preserve
Covenants transform
Covenants act as a catalyst
Covenants create a dependence
Covenants are eternal. They have a remarkable staying power unless we break them through sin and contaminate them that way.

If we contaminate ourselves through sin we have lost our savor and will be cast out and trodden under foot. The beautiful things with covenants is that salt can be restored through the gift of repentance. We don't have to remain in the state if we don't want to.
