Today's Favorite Verse: Luke 5:36
"And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old."
Today, I felt ready to ponder on this. Jesus is speaking to the scribes and Pharisees so how are they doing what he warned them off in a parable. How were they putting new cloth onto an old garment? And in the following verses new wine into old bottles? I think "new" means Jesus' teaching. They were going to pick and choose from what he said and add it to what they knew. So what is the danger of picking and choosing what you want to hear and do in the gospel and not replace the old for the new? The danger is a tear or rent, or burst bottles. The truth is distorted and polluted if co-mingled with the old and new laws. The old laws might "taste" better to them, but its not lasting. The law of Moses was going to be fulfilled and they needed to replace it with the "new testament" that Christ would give. For them to not replace the law of Moses they would totally leave out Christ. That would void the whole garment, them. Like an old garment they would be tossed out into the fire.
