Today's Favorite Verse: Helaman 9:39-41

Today's Favorite Verse: Helaman 9:39-41
"And there were some of the Nephites who believed on the words of Nephi; and there were some also, who believed because of the testimony of the five, for they had been converted while they were in prison.
And now there were some among the people, who said that Nephi was a prophet.
And there were others who said: Behold, he is a god, for except he was a god he could not know of all things. For behold, he has told us the thoughts of our hearts, and also has told us things; and even he has brought unto our knowledge the true murderer of our chief judge.

This chapter begins with Nephi having told those gathered in his garden that a destruction was coming to them. That it was even at their doors. He told them to go to their judgment seat and they would find the judge there murdered by his own brother. There were five men that ran to see if Nephi's words were true. After these five men and later Nephi were falsely accused of the murder, Nephi tells them he will show them another sign. He tells them go to the home of the judge's brother Seezoram and ask him specific things. Nephi tells them how he will answer them. That they will find blood upon the skirts of his cloak and he will confess. It all happens as Nephi says.

What I pondered on was why did Nephi give them signs? The people never asked for them. I think their hearts must have been so wicked that the Lord used these signs to awaken them from the deep sleep they were in. The events of this day caused the people to ponder on what they had witnessed. There was discussion on who Nephi was, and how was he able to know the things he prophesied of? These discussions moved the words of Nephi faster among the people than anything else could. Time was running out for them and a prophet was calling them to repent. The people needed to hear that message. Not everyone believed that Nephi was a prophet, but everyone appeared to have heard and have an opinion. When I sit and think about it the Lord was giving them a final chance to repent before destruction would being. It was merciful to give them a sign of its coming, and a chance to repent. They would not be destroyed in ignorance.

I could not help but think about our day, and what a role social media and the internet plays in bringing a prophets warning voice to every kindred, tongue and people. I don't know what event is exactly coming, but something is, and it must have the whole world talking. Before the last days scenes begin to take over this earth, the warning message of a prophet needs to be heard by every person on this earth.
