Today's Favorite Verse: 1 Samuel 13:9, 13
"And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.
And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou has not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel forever."
Saul is up against the Philistines and Israel is so terrified they hide themselves in caves, thickets, rocks, pits and high places. Saul waits the appointed seven days by Samuel for him to come and offer burnt offerings. When Samuel doesn't come Saul gathers the people and offers up the sacrifices himself. This is something Saul had no priesthood authority to do. It may look like he was trying to do a good thing, but when you do not have authority from God to act in such a manner it is an offense. Even worse to gather the people and have them join in this sin too. When you violate priesthood principles it will bring anguish and sorrow into your life. It really is a foolish thing to think you can act in God's name when you have no authority from God to do so. Just because you want a blessing you cannot just name it and say you have it, when you have no authority to do so.
