Today's Favorite Verse: Matthew 20:20

Today's Favorite Verse: Matthew 20:20
"Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him."

What did she want?  For her sons to sit on the right and left hand of the Lord in his kingdom. The Lord answered and said "Ye know not what ye ask."  He asked if they were able to "drink of the cup that I shall drink of." and they said "We are able." Then the Lord explains "but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my father."

Did the mother of Zebedee's children desire a good thing?  Yes, to a point. Did she understand what she was really asking? No, she didn't. Was she humble about it? No, not really, because saying "We are able" is showing pride and not humility. She needed to be taught of the Lord to humble herself to the Father's will. I can desire righteous things but be out of harmony with the Father's will. It is better to seek the Father's will and then I will know righteous things to desire. Desiring something, even good things, out of the bounds the Lord has set, and against the Father's will can lead to pride.
