Today's Favorite Verse: 2 Chronicles 8:11
"And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy, whereunto the ark of the Lord hath come."
There is a footnote on My in this verse, in Hebrew "No wife of mine shall dwell." I went back and read 1 Kings 11 where it speaks of king Solomon loving strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh. When he was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods.
It made me wonder how Solomon could have wives that he thought unclean and not able to be in the same city as the temple, yet it was ok for him to be with them? That really is very telling, about what later happened to him.
"No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."
