Today's Favorite Verse: Alma 51:13

Today's Favorite Verse: Alma 51:13
"And it came to pass that when the men who were called king-men had heard that the Lamanites were coming down to battle against them, they were glad in their hearts; and they refused to take up arms, for they were wrath with the chief judge, and also with the people of liberty, that they would not take up arms to defend their country."

Pahoran is named chief judge of the land. People of noble birth decided they wanted a king instead. They wanted Pahoran to change their laws so they could have a king. Instead the people voted to not support the kingmen and the freeman won. Even when they lose, and knowing the voice of the people, the kingmen would rather the Lamanites come in and destroy them then to fight to defend their country. It makes me ask why would you do that? If the Lamanites overpowered them there would absolutely be no kingmen.

I see as Moroni is having to gain control over the kingmen that they needed to pull down their pride. The issue was their pride and thinking because of noble birth they were greater than everyone else. They wanted power and authority over others. I think Satan would have blinded their eyes to falsely believe that if the Lamanites took over their lands the kingmen would be recognized and setup to rule over it. What heights Satan can cause a man to believe they are invincible. What blindness is caused by pride and hate. To the point you would destroy yourself so no one else can win. It did make me ponder on the message it gives for my day. Is the message of this story about how prideful and wicked people would much rather see our nation destroyed as long as they can have power over others for a season?
