Today's Favorite Verse: Alma 9:18

Today's Favorite Verse: Alma 9:18
"But behold, I say unto you that if ye persist in your wickedness that your days shall not be prolonged in the land, for the Lamanites shall be sent upon you; and if ye repent not they shall come in a time when you know not, and ye shall be visited with utter destruction; and it shall be according to the fierce anger of the Lord."

The Lord sent Alma with Amulek back to speak to the people of Ammonihah. Alma was to testify that they needed to repent or they would be destroyed. What I pondered on is how the Lord gives warnings. He will call us to repentance and then give us time. This provides us with a full opportunity to repent. The judgment doesn't come the next moment.

I cannot help but think of people that will mock God, saying that he will strike them dead for saying or doing this or that. Laughing because nothing happened to them afterward. There is no understanding of how the Lord works. The Lord doesn't want to destroy his people, he loves us, he wants to bless our lives not punish us. Yeah, there are times he will give immediate judgement, but that isn't how it often works. He always gives me enough time to repent. The time given is unknown. That is why in this verse the Lord tells them it will "come in a time when you know not". I know what eventually happens to the city of Ammonihah, exactly as the Lord had said would happen through his mouthpiece the prophet Alma. When the prophet speaks and warns I have learned I better listen.
