Today's Favorite Verse - Acts 16:17

Today's favorite verse: Acts 16:17
"The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation."

At first glance this verse wouldn't sound to bad. But, it is the story of Paul and Silas meeting a women that was possessed with an evil spirit. She was a soothsayer and did divinations for money. She came across Paul and Silas and then for many days followed them saying this introduction. This grieved Paul until he finally turns to the woman and commanded the evil spirit to come out of her which it did. Her masters were upset over this because they made a lot of money off of the women's soothsaying. This eventually leads to Paul and Silas having stripes laid upon them and cast into prison. Don't worry it has a happy ending.

What I pondered on today was the times Christ came across people possessed with evil spirits and they knew he was the Savior. He would always tell them not to tell the people who he was. I find it interesting that these evil spirits cannot help but speak the truth of who the Savior is. It doesn't sound bad, but its their motives for doing this that is wrong. I sat and pondered on their motives and I can see many of them. I am only pointing out one and that is boasting. This boasting served to cast out the Holy Ghost and the ability for people listening to hear the actual words of Christ servants. This reminds me how important it is to have humility when sharing the gospel. When we have pride and boast on our knowledge it casts the true spirit out and makes it harder for people to believe in Christ.
