"Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment."
Among other things this chapter shows us church government. A person questions or puts forth their own doctrine. The local leaders hear it and bring it to the higher authorities. The matter is discussed and evidence heard. Then they seek by the Holy Ghost to understand God's will in the matter. The issue is then resolved and letters of instruction is sent back to the members. In this case they also sent elders from the church to speak to the people.
I sat and thought of the various issues of the day I have seen in my lifetime. How this same process continues today. During sacrament meetings we occasionally have letters from the First Presidency (prophet & counselors) read over the pulpit. During LDS General Conference, held twice a year, we hear from our prophet and apostles the will of the Lord in all manner of issues facing us. In the Lord's Church there is order in all things.
