"Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;"
I have long since decided that when the scriptures speak of marriage, divorce, and adultery it is speaking about the church and its people's relationship with God. In this verse, if I continued to see it speaking of adultery and apostasy as being the same, it made the whole chapter understandable. When people go after other gods they divorce themselves from the true and living God. He is no longer written in their hearts and cherished by them. For that severe judgment comes upon them. In the end of this chapter there is a restoration, that is where we are right now.
