"Thus saith the Lord; for three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:"
In this chapter Amos says "Thus saith the Lord", five times. I was reminded of Moses saying that multiple times to Pharaoh. In fact in the book of Exodus Moses says the phrase ten times. I did a search of the scriptures and that phrase is used 546 times. Why is it used so often? Because a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord and he acknowledges it. When a prophet says those words I better listen.
