Today's Favorite Verse: Deuteronomy 9:5
"Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."
I pondered on how very humbling those words are. The children of Israel were not possessing the lands of their inheritance due to any righteousness on their part. It was due to the promises the Lord made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in their righteousness. The other nations had a cause for their destruction. It was due to their own wickedness that had become fully ripe after many generations. The warning was also given to the children of Israel that they also would be scattered when they forgot their God. The timing of all things is in the hand of the Lord.
