Today's Favorite Verse: Luke 9:61-62
"And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
I compared it to this verse.
"And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee."
(Mark 5:18-19)
Why did the Lord give different commandments to two different men?
Was it because the man healed served a greater purpose by testifying to his family and friends what the Lord had done for him? Maybe it was to have compassion not only on him but his friends also that had long been denied his association. The man healed showed he was fully committed and ready to follow the Lord right now. The first man showed his life wasn't in order, he wasn't fully committed and ready to leave his home and family quite yet. He still had cares of the world. We serve were we are called, and when called we don't look back.
