Today's Favorite Verse: 2 Chronicles 34:14, 21, 27-28

Today's Favorite Verse: 2 Chronicles 34:14, 21, 27-28
"And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.
Go, inquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book."
Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.
Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again"

Josiah, king of Judah was righteous and purged Judah and Jerusalem of the idolatry and occult practices that had infested the land. He sets to repair the house of the Lord and the people pay tithes. During this work they found a book of the law, that was given by Moses. When it is read to the king he rends is clothes because of how far they have strayed. Because he had humbled himself and repented he is forgiven. He is promised to go to his grave in peace and not see the evil that will come upon the land.

This made me ponder on the importance of having the scriptures. All the copies of the scriptures had been destroyed earlier and the Jews were ignorant of the law. Without the law they fell into gross idolatry. It is a cycle that repeats over and over again. It made me think of how many copies of the scriptures we have today, yet many are ignorant of what is in them because they choose not to read them. We must be under an ever greater condemnation for it, especially when we profess to being a follower of Jesus Christ. Without the law how can you follow it? Would that be considered willful disobedience? When we stray out of ignorance and humble ourselves and repent when we come to an understanding of the law then we are forgiven. Those that don't repent will face God's judgment and wrath.
