Today's Favorite Verse: Doctrine & Covenants 85:3
"It is contrary to the will and commandment of God that those who receive not their inheritance by consecration, agreeable to his law, which he has given, that he may tithe his people, to prepare them against the day of vengeance and burning, should have their names enrolled with the people of God."
This made me wonder where the scripture was that we refer to tithing as being fire insurance? The footnotes to this verse did not take me there. I looked and did find the one I was thinking of.
"Behold, now it is called today until the coming of the Son of Man, and verily it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming."
(Doctrine & Covenants 64:23)
I thought about now I don't pay tithing for fire insurance. That doesn't even cross my mind as a reason to pay it. I wondered why I do? I don't know, I think its because I just want to. It's become part of my celestial bookkeeping. I don't think I could balance my budget and make ends meet with the little that I have if I didn't. I've seen to many blessing.
I also looked at the words of Malachi.
"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
(Malachi 3:10)
In the day of burning I think we will all say the Lord poured us out a blessing that there was not room enough to receive it.
