Today's Favorite Verse: Doctrine & Covenants 3:4

Today's Favorite Verse: Doctrine & Covenants 3:4
"For although a man may have many revelations, and have power to do many mighty works, yet if he boasts in his own strength, and sets at naught the counsels of God, and follows after the dictates of his own will and carnal desires, he must fall and incur the vengeance of a just God upon him."

The made me think of pride and humility. I have often thought that the only tool the adversary has to crack the shell around a righteous man is to tell him he is so righteous. It is the loss of humility that will crumble him. The proud care more about what others think of them than God's judgment. Part of what Joseph needed to learn was spiritual maturity, something that must be experienced first hand to learn from.

"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."
(Proverbs 16:18)

"We are here on earth to gain experience we can obtain in no other way. We are given the opportunity to grow, to develop, and to gain spiritual maturity. To do that, we must learn to apply truth. How we face challenges and resolve difficult problems is crucially important to our happiness."
(Richard G. Scott, "Learning to Recognize Answers to Prayers", Oct 1989 General Conference)
