Today's Favorite Verse: Daniel 4:27, 37
"Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.
Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase."
Nebhuchadnezzar has a dream that troubles him. Daniel is able to interpret it. At first Daniel hesitates to give the king the interpretation for it shows that for seven years the king is basically mad. He lives in a field and eats grass as oxen. With the interpretation Daniel gives him counsel to repent of his sins and show greater mercy to the poor. Being able to show mercy to others is a sincere evidence of repentance. It is Daniels hope that if he does this it would avert what is to come and give him continued tranquility.
Nebuchadnezzar must have not followed this counsel, for one year later he loses his reason and goes mad as prophesied. It wasn't until seven years later his reason returns. When his reason returns he recognizes his experience was punishment for his pride. He does appear converted to the God of Daniel.
