"Therefore I say unto you, it shall be better for them than for you except ye repent."
Samuel the Lamanite may have been speaking to the Nephites, warning them that if they did not repent they would be destroyed. For the Lamanites after putting aside the false traditions of their fathers and being fully converted were more faithful to the gospel. The Lord is warning them that he's going to clean house if the Nephites don't repent.
I pondered on how the same type of thing happens in our day. That we can never get complacent in the gospel and allow it to become our culture instead of our faith. To be raised in the church is a good thing, but we can never take for granted that we have fully been converted. All of us need to be converts to the church of Jesus Christ. We don't inherit our testimonies, each of us has to obtain it for ourselves and make it grow.
