"And the angel spake unto me, saying: Behold the twelve disciples of the Lamb, who are chosen to minister unto thy seed.
And he said unto me: Thou rememberest the twelve apostles of the Lamb? Behold they are they who shall judge the twelve tribes of Israel; wherefore, the twelve ministers of thy seed shall be judged of them; for ye are of the house of Israel."
The chapter header says:
"Nephi sees in vision the land of promise; the righteousness iniquity, and downfall of its inhabitants; the coming of th Lamb of God among them; how the Twelve Disciples and the Twelve Apostles will judge Israel; and the loathsome and filthy state of those who dwindle in unbelief."
I have no clue how many times I have read the Book of Mormon and this was the first time I realized that the Twelve Christ chose to minister in the Americas after his resurrection were called the twelve disciples, and the twelve chosen before Christ's resurrection are called the twelve apostles. I had often wondered how there could be two sets of apostles on the earth at the same time. Now I see one set is called the apostles and the other disciples. Both are referred to as the Twelve. It is the apostles that will judge the twelve tribes of Israel.
